Information about
the Porsche 968

After a ten years production life of the Porsche 944, this Porsche was replaced by the Porsche 968. In effect a rebodied 944 and similar 3-litre engine with modified inlet manifold and a variable valve timing mechanism named Variocam producing 240 bph. A new six speed gear box and four speed Tiptronic option. Available in a coupe and Cabriolet forms 1993 saw the production of the 968 CS (Club Sport), a lightened model with lovered suspension and bigger brakes. This car was judged best handling car of 1993 by Autocar and Motor Magazine. The same year saw the production of the 968 Turbo S, developing 305 bph and 175 mph topspeed. But with poor sales and to make way for the new Boxster the 968 ceased production in 1995.
