L'analisi dei modi e degli effetti delle avarie (FMEA) e' uno strumento prezioso per analizzare sin dalle prime fasi del progetto: l'efficacia e l'effettiva ridondanza degli impianti e dei loro controlli; I'esistenza di punti critici nei sistemi; la necessita' di azioni correttive; la certezza che le conseguenze di una singola avaria siano limitate e opportunamente controllate; la completezza di tutti i sistemi della nave e quindi l'adeguatezza della specifica tecnica.

Abstract: The marine industry is recognizing the powerful techniques that can be used to perform risk analysis of marine systems. One technique that has been applied in both national and international marine regulations is Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). This risk analysis tool assumes a failure mode occurs in a system/component through some failure mechanism; the effect of this failure is then evaluated. A risk ranking can be developed in a more detailed variant of FMEA called Failure Mode and Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA).

Abstract: Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is one of the formal techniques for effective product development. Its main purpose is to avoid as many potential failures as possible by identifying them and taking appropriate actions in early stages of design and development. Standalone FMEA software packages are commercially available in the market. They offer limited supports for teamwork. This paper proposes to employ the World Wide Web (WWW, web) technology to provide FMEA services on the Internet/Intranets. Resulting web-based FMEA systems require no installation or maintenance but offer remote and simultaneous accesses and therefore better teamwork.
