My Running (Updated):
For the people that regularly check out (and ask for) my personal running
programs and performances I'll try to update my logbook every week or at least
every 2 weeks. I've just had a big checkup at the lab. You can check out my
lactate and VO2max levels in the My Running
section.

Overtraining: making a difficult diagnosis and implementing targeted treatment:
Overtraining syndrome is a serious problem marked by decreased performance, increased fatigue, persistent muscle soreness, mood disturbances, and feeling 'burnt out' or 'stale.' The diagnosis of overtraining is usually

Training\ Overtraining:
A new subsection has been added to Training, i.e. Overtraining. A
majority of the hard-working athletes will have to deal with some form of
overtraining sooner or later. It's important to detect the symptoms of
overtraining early and to adapt the training program in order to let the body
recover.

The Use of Alcohol in Sports:
The acute ingestion of (moderate amounts) of alcohol will not substantially influence metabolic or physiological functions essential to physical performance and will not improve (but may decrease) strength, power, local muscular endurance, speed, and cardiovascular
endurance.

My Running in 2002:
My track season is almost over. Coming back from injury and with a lack of specific training I'm
happy to say that the injury seems like ancient history. A 4'01 on the 1500m tells me that my
basic form is not bad at all.
Training log updated until Wednesday 11 September.
(Added on 12 September 2002)
Hosting problems:
The Fast Lane hasn't been updated in 5 weeks due to hosting problems at my ISP
(Tiscali). I was unable to upload files, and The Fast Lane has been offline
quite often during the last 6 weeks. Since this problem hasn't been fixed the
site is (temporarily) hosted elsewhere. But you won't notice anything as long as
you enter this site via http://thefastlane.borghoms.com. On top of that the
discussion site has been shut down by another provider.

Training\ Combining different training means:
A new subsection has been added to Training, i.e. Combining different training means.
One of the most difficult tasks for a well-trained middle distance runner is
combine the various training means (like endurance, speed etc.). If the
combination is good, the competitive runner will enhance his performance, if the
combination is bad, he will lose his form. This section gives tips to combine
training means. Take
a look!

Being a Track & Field lover I have spent hours surfing the
World Wide Web, looking for some good websites with interesting information and
articles on this Olympic sport. But rare are the websites that provide more
than the usual results of a few athletes, some links to other sites and a couple of a articles
about recent events. Everybody knows that runners who practice their sport
seriously, usually keep their training schemes hidden for the outside world.
Finding a good scheme for e.g. an 800m runner, is more difficult than finding a
needle in a hay stack.
The Fast Lane wants to offer an insight in some
training principles etc. Starting with only a limited number of articles, we hope
to add more interesting articles over time, and to provide training schemes from
different people as well, starting with mine.
One of the most complete sections at this time is the Links
section. It contains hundreds of links from Belgian clubs, International meets,
statistics and other sites that are worth checking out. There is a (minor) focus
on the Belgian websites as the webmaster and most visitors are Belgian.
My Running shows my running schemes (with times) for
2001 and 1997 (I haven't run a single mile between 1997 and 2001 - except for
that one time when I got caught breaking into the bank ;-). The 2001 planning does not contain
a classic training scheme as you'll find more gaps than actual training days.
But this is the section where The Fast Lane got started and where my
running mates could follow my 'progress'. And you can find some 1500m running
schemes too, which I used in 1996-1997.
You can post a message for other visitors in the
Discussion section. And a quick overview of all articles can be found on
the Sitemap (Click HOME then SITEMAP).
For any suggestion you can always contact me at thefastlane@borghoms.com.
