The AC Cobra is a British sports car, produced from 1961 till 1966.
When in 1961 the AC Ace no longer had an engine because production was stopped in Bristol, the American Caroll Shelby fitted a new engine from Ford (V8; 4.3L, "small block") in the AC. The new engine wasn't heavier than the old one and deliverd twice as much horsepower.
In 1962, the AC left the plant in Thames Bitton to be transported to California where Shelby gave the AC's more power and sex-appeal. He also gave the AC sportscar the name of his dreams: Cobra.
Later he fitted a Ford V8 "big block" with 7000cc and 480 horsepower . As a result the Cobra reached 62 mph within 4 sec.
